Bitchin Grease- The Greasers Pomade

I know I have not been as active posting as I would like to, but I have been very busy revamping our pomade business Bitchin Grease. I wanted to share with you all how far it has come in a year and a half since we first started. We now offer 2 scents old school fresh and coconut in our original hold in 4 oz tins. You can get your tins here at our Etsy store. We plan to keep formulating new product and try our best to get the word out there about our pomade!

It is perfect for the everyday pompadour or slick back for men or victory rolls or pomps for women. Bitchin Grease is a very versatile product that gives medium hold and medium shine. For a classic pomp I would say this product works best when it has been built up for a few days, it only gets better and better. As for wash out, it will wash out within a few washes. See Stan below with Bitchin Grease in his hair at a car show in Kansas.

I hope you all enjoyed seeing our venture progress I will keep you updated as new items arrive.

Pyrex Vintage Charm Rise ‘n’ Shine

You all know my great love for collecting vintage and vintage inspired items for the home, so I thought you all would love to see the new Vintage Charm Collection inspired by Pyrex. Particularly the Rise ‘n’ Shine collection for it’s bold aqua and white “Butterprint” inspiration.

I have an original Butterprint Pyrex mixing bowl that was my grandmother’s and it was passed down to me by my aunt. So I was immediately drawn to this 1950’s inspired collection!

I saw the mixing bowl set while I was browsing at Target awhile back and I fell in love but I didn’t buy it at the time. Months went by when I was browsing on Pinterest for vintage Christmas ideas and I came across a blog that designed a Holiday tablescape inspired by this Vintage Charm collection. This decor uses bright aqua, red and white for the color palette and the design plays off of the amish butterprint of the Pyrex. Including a diamond shaped hanging “chandelier”, corn husk trees and personalized place cards. You can see the detailed inspiration photos and free downloads on the blog Hostess with the Mostess. While I began reading and pinning all of the photos on the post, I realized I could have a chance to win the mixing bowl set, so I immediately entered the giveaway! About a month later I received an email from Jenn (the blog owner) and she said the first person that won never contacted them so I was the winner! I was very excited to get this set of Vintage Charm mixing bowls since this collection will go perfectly with all of the other vintage decor in my home.

Here are some detailed photos of the new bowl set inspired by Pyrex and the last photo is a comparison of the new vs. the vintage Butterprint. They are very similar both in color and design. It is hard to choose a favorite.

There are also 4 other prints in the Vintage Charm collection named Spot On, Birds of a Feather, Memory Lane & Tickled Pink. They are available at Target, Walmart, Macy’s, Amazon & There is a set for everyone!

Thanks again to The Hostess with the Mostess for the fun giveaway and the great inspiration tablescape!

Happy Shopping.

A Vintage Christmas Decor 2016

I thought I would start off the Holiday season right by giving you all some Christmas decor ideas. I have been keeping an eye out for some retro and vintage reproduction items you can add to your collection. I am going to be putting the items in groups according to store. I hope you enjoy these adorable vintage inspired items! Happy Holidays!

World Market

Items from left to right: 1) Set of 4 Retro bottlebrush trees, 7″ tall, $23.96.  2) Retro Deer with glitter,  9″ tall $14.99.  3) Retro bottlebrush winter white wreath, $12.99. 4) Retro bottlebrush wreath with deer, $24.99.

I always love the fact that World Market has vintage retro inspired items year round! They really know how to combine vintage with a tiny bit of modern flare. I really appreciate these reproduction items now that I have a toddler, so I do not have to actually put out my authentic vintage and run the risk of them getting accidently broken.

1) Retro metallic bottlebrush trees, set of 2, 4″ tall, $19.98. 2) Alpine bottlebrush trees, set of 2 4″tall, $19.98. 3) Retro paper houses, set of 2, $39.98.

1)Retro mica bottlebrush trees, 6.5″ or 9.5″, $9.99-$12.99 2) Retro bottlebrush wreath, $14.98. 3) Retro metal deer ornaments, set of 3, $14.98

This season, Target had a few items to note that were more retro inspired and cute rather than vintage reproduction. I like anything that has pretty pastels, aqua and coral mixed with retro shapes. This line of gift wrap really caught my eye and I will definitely be purchasing some of it!

1) Atomic starburst LED string lights, 10 lights, $12.99.

These are color changing starburst lights I thought would be cool to add to my vintage tree or inside my front bay window. I feel they would add an atomic meets modern vibe to the house, and they would be perfect for my 2 year old to look at.

1)Atomic starburst garland snowflake metal garland, 72″ long, $10.39.

I like how this has a very retro feel and it is metal! It would make a great addition to your vintage inspired retro decor and would look great hanging in a window or on a wall as pictured above.

From left: 1) Aqua mercury glass tree, large 12″ tall, $15.99. They are also available in different colors and sizes. 2) Threshold Tree Dinner Plate, $2.99 3) Wondershop Glitter Deer, aqua and red, 13″ tall, $8.00 4) Threshold Vintage car with tree melamine serving platter, 7.8″, $1.99.

These items are great modern meets vintage decor. I like how they incorporate aqua and red into these pieces. They would match your decor whether you have traditional red or more pastels, take your pick!

1)Wondershop 18″ Bright ornament tree, $20.00. 2) Wondershop 16″ lit bright ornament wreath, $25.00. 3) Glitter top retro ornament, $3.00 each.

I liked these bold colored items available in the Wondershop. The ornament tree and matching wreath were very pretty and lightweight. They have a retro vibe and the wreath lights up too! The top ornaments are a quick way to add a bit of an atomic feel to your tree, and they are shatter proof!

1)Threshold large white bottlebrush tree, 15″ tall, $15.99. 2) Shiny starburst ornament, $3.00 each. 3) Wondershop reflector retro glass ornament set, 14 ct., $20.00. 4) Set of 7  Mini, $15.99 & Tall bottlebrush trees, $7.99 each.

Bottlebrush trees are an easy way to make your decor have a vintage feel. The trees from Target are pretty amazing and I really like the color selection they have, you can get red and aqua or pastel pink, mint and white. So depending on your decor, you can get some to match!

Hobby Lobby

I visited Hobby Lobby the other day and they have a whole table dedicated to vintage inspired Christmas decor! I absolutely loved a lot of the items on the display. I am not sure of prices so you will have to visit your local store and take a peek on this one. Enjoy the amazing items!

I hope you all enjoyed looking at some of the amazing decor I found for you and have an amazing Holiday season! I will do a separate post when I have my decor set up.

Happy Holidays to all Mamas! Happy Decorating!

Converting Your Home Into An “Honest” Home

As you all know I am obsessed with The Honest Company, so I thought I would give you some tips on how to convert your home to a “non-toxic” environment. It all started 4 years ago when I read the book The Honest Life by Jessica Alba. Then I discovered The Honest Company and I signed up for a free trial so I could see what it was all about. Once I tried the products I knew this was something I wanted for my household and for myself. I have allergies, eczema and severe migraines, so for me this was a must!

I did not like cleaning my house due to the fact that the products were so strong and they would instantly give me a migraine and I would be sneezing like crazy. Once I received my first Honest bundle and cleaned the house, it was so amazing. I actually enjoyed it and I was so relieved that I wasn’t getting a headache. The scents of the products smell really good and they still make your home smell clean without the over powering chemicals. The multi-surface cleaner is White Grapefruit, the bathroom cleaner is Eucalyptus Mint, the toilet cleaner is Tea Tree Eucalyptus, the floor cleaner is Citrus Rosemary, and the glass cleaner is Free and Clear. All of them are amazing and work very well.

So the first step I took was ordering a bundle with the cleaners I thought I would like to convert first. The first I converted were multi-surface cleaner, bathroom cleaner and glass cleaner. I also got a lotion and body oil in my first bundle. I was excited the first step to a non toxic home was on it’s way and I didn’t even have to go to the store to get the items. Once I started using these items it was all downhill from there because I was then determined to get every product they had at the time, they didn’t have as much as they do now back in 2013. That is the great part about ordering the bundle service from The Honest Company, you get to pick and choose when you want it delivered and the products you want. For me, this was the easiest and most cost friendly way to convert my home. To this day I stand by Honest for everything! Cherry and I also use all of the body products, shampoo, hair detangler, she uses the diapers, bottom wash, rash cream, and powder. We use just about all Honest products out there! (Now to get Stan to use them with us). All it takes is trying the products and you will not regret it. Yes, the biggest difference at first is knowing you have a clean home without the “clean” smell to constantly remind you. That was great for me and my health issues so that wasn’t that hard to adjust to. I can say that after using Honest for 4 years now I have become more sensitive to scents and different smells of products, not that it is a bad thing, just something that makes me love the products I do use everyday.

As soon as I showed my mom the products, she was instantly hooked and she started trying the multi-surface cleaner all around my house. After that day she immediately ordered a bundle for herself and slowly converted her home as well.

My next conversion will be to order the Honest Beauty products. I have gotten the free skincare trial and I am very impressed and I would like to try these products for sure. I really liked the Even Brighter Everyday Moisturizer and the Hydrating Mist. For my first bundle I would like to try the Cream Foundation, Brighter Moisturizer and the Truly Kissable Lip Crayon in Rose Kiss. After using the skincare trials, there is one thing I would like to mention and that is the products have a plant based, very natural smell that took me a few times to get used to, but I love it now! Overall I am very excited to try the beauty items.

I hope you all have fun converting your home into an Honest, non-toxic household!

5 Minute Rosie Bandana Updo

I wanted to do another quick and easy hair tutorial for all of the gals that like vintage pinup style hair but do not have much time to accomplish that. As a mom, I know what it is like to have zero time for hair in the morning. I have come up with a few quick styles that suit my life and I think they may also help out some others too! This is my quick 5 minute Rosie inspired bandana updo.

The first thing you will want to do is section off the top center section of hair as if you were going to do a pompadour. Next tease the back of that section and use a smoothing brush to lightly smooth that out on the top, but do not brush out the tease. Then you will roll the hair back and down into a roll.

Next you will secure that roll with a few bobbi pins, one through the center of the roll and a few on the sides. You want to be sure the pins are hidden. Also, my roll is not perfect and I am ok with that since it is just a quick style that I wear during the week. If I am going to an event I will take a bit more time on this to make it a bit more perfect. Once the roll is secure, you are going to pull the rest of your hair back into a high messy bun at the crown of your head. This is just a ponytail that I do not pull all the way through. It creates a bit of volume and more of a quick polished look once you put a bandana or scarf over it.

Once the hair is up I take some of my Bitchin Grease Pomade and smooth any fly aways on the roll and on the sides. (You can purchase Bitchin Grease by contacting me through the Facebook page linked above).  I also put a bobbi pin underneath the ponytail on the bottom where my hair tends to fall down a bit.

Next, I fold my bandana or scarf. Start with the bandana completely open, fold one corner in as in the top right photo. Next fold the opposite corner in the same way as you did in the first step, it should look like the top right photo once both corners are folded in. Then fold each of those in once more as in bottom left photo. You will end up with your bandana like the bottom right photo. Now you are ready to put it on!

If you folded it correctly it should look like this once you tie it around your head. Once it is tied, I secure each side above my ears with two crossed bobbi pins. Also one on the bottom of each side just under my ear. This helps to keep your bandana in place all day long.

The final step is to give your hair a good spray. I love to use Big Sexy Hair Spray and Play Harder. This really helps to keep it all in place for the whole day!

I  hope you enjoyed this quick hair tutorial. Don’t forget to have fun and remember it doesn’t have to be perfect!

Recently there have been quite a few books that I would like to read. I wanted to share the list with you all so you can read them too! Maybe once I read them I will do mini reviews on the books and tell you all about them. Please note, I have linked all of the books to the Amazon page so you can purchase or preview the book.

Dita Von Teese Your Beauty Mark: The Ultimate Guide to Eccentric Glamour

I have been wanting to purchase this one for awhile, I just need to do it. Dita is one of my all time favorites. She is so beautiful and a I like what she stands for and how she carries herself. This should be a good read since Dita has amazing style and always looks flawless!

Lauren Conrad Celebrate

This book discusses all about putting the style and beauty Lauren teaches you in her previous books to use while entertaining and learning how to throw a great event. All of the essentials, tips and tricks you need to know about having a party. This is a must read for me since I love having parties and decorating for them!

Kristin Cavallari Balancing in Heels

This seems like a great book for all mamas to read. After reading the preview from Amazon I like the layout of the book and it seems similar to The Honest Life in that sense. She talks about her life, journey and how she makes her daily life work while being a mom. I am always up for new tips and tricks when it comes to being a mom and I like reading about other journeys and struggles.

Travis Barker Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death and Drums Drums Drums

I have been a Travis Barker fan for quite some time, maybe about 15 years now. I would love to read about his life and how he has gotten to where he is today. All about issues, struggles and being an amazing musician. I usually prefer to read biographies so this is right up my alley. Enjoy!

The Body Book by Cameron Diaz

I am all about being comfortable in your own skin and being happy in your life. From what I read about this book it is all about that. I would love to see what she has to say about this.

Rockabilly Photography That Inspires

Have you ever looked at photos and got inspired? I put together a few photos that I found while browsing Pinterest. I just had to share their beauty and hope that they will inspire you to take a similar photo, to dress in a similar way, to do a similar pose at a photo shoot or to just simply admire.

Photography is one of my passions that I do not utilize enough. I really wish I would get out the camera more and capture the lifestyle of my rockabilly life. I would like to get some film and experiment with my many vintage cameras. I have them all put away at the moment but that is one of my goals this summer, to take more photos and experiment with film. Maybe even do a photo challenge of some sort to force myself to shoot. I need to get a shelf to display them all and then I will share my collection with you.

I like that whenever I look at certain photos I get inspired to shoot again. I like the feeling I get when I really “feel” a photo and what the photographer was trying to capture. Depending on the photo, it can make you feel a wide range of emotions. I am drawn to lifestyle or snapshot photography. I like that each photo has a purpose and it shows a certain idea, lifestyle or person. It captures a certain moment in time to show an audience that particular moment. The photos I am going to share all spoke to me in some way and inspired me. I hope you enjoy the collection I have put together. In it to live it!

All photos were found on Pinterest. You can see all original posts on my board here.

Redecorate Your Toddler’s Room With Pillowfort at Target

Target has a new line of Children’s home decor called Pillowfort that is super cute and well worth a quick look (you can see the decor here).  I am going to show you a few items I would like to add to Cherry’s room as I redecorate it into a toddler room. My mother gave Cherry new bedding for Christmas so I am going to go with those colors for the most part. The comforter is light blue, almost aqua with red hearts, coral & white polka dots and flowers (see below).

The first item in the collection that caught my eye was the small table and chairs. I absolutely adore this pink table with scallops and the vintage inspired metal chairs (top left & right). This table would give her somewhere to sit and play, have a tea party or color. I liked that it is small enough to not take up so much room but it is the perfect girly set for her new toddler room! Moving on to her bed, I feel if I add a few comfy pillows or cute stuffed animals like the flamingo plush and the “C” pillow cover, it will make her bed a fun little sanctuary and it will add a bit of flair. Next, I wouldn’t mind having a few extra sets of sheets so I chose the flamingo and the aqua dot sets since they will somewhat match her bedding.  The colors and prints are very relaxing but fun and cute at the same time.

The last pieces would really tie everything together. She does not have an end table, only a dresser, so I like the idea of having the end table next to her crib/toddler bed with the pink retro inspired lamp. I also need to add some new artwork to her walls and since she loves playing princess, I like the white crown to put on her wall and that can also act as a night light. Finally, the circle wall shelf. It reminds me of a vintage shadow box so I really like this to put small collectibles and display her favorite items. I wouldn’t mind having one for my living room or bedroom! Very cute.

I hope you take a minute to go and take a look at Pillowfort they have such great items for girls and boys. Keep an eye out on my Rockabilly Mama Facebook page for a giveaway that I have been meaning to do for you all!
