As I was browsing through Pinterest during the Holidays I ran into an idea on how to make your own sugar scrub for hands, body and face. I decided to make them for the girls in my family as small gifts. Here is how I made them along with a recipe. They all loved the scrub so much that they wanted to try making it for themselves!
I usually just eyeball the ingredients since I know how I like the consistency of the scrub to be. Here is the recipe to start off, you may like your scrub with more sugar or less depending on what you prefer. I like mine to have a lot more sugar so the scrub isn’t too oily.
Coconut Sugar Scrub
1/4 cup coconut oil liquefied
1 cup sugar
1 drop of food coloring if you choose
20 drops of essential oil if you want to add a scent on top of the coconut. I have tried sweet orange and that blends nicely with the coconut oil.
Here are a few tips about coconut oil. It liquefies at room temperature and depending on what kind you buy refined or unrefined, it will smell like coconut. I prefer the unrefined coconut oil because it is in it’s purest form and it smells like coconut. Refined will not have the coconut scent.
As for the essential oil, you can use any brand you prefer. I usually get the Aura Cacia brand at Sprouts since it is cheapest.
I hope you have fun making your own sugar scrub! Enjoy!
